Self-hosting software refers to the practice of hosting, running and managing applications or software on one's own server instead of someone else's server. It is usually done by individuals who are privacy concious, individuals who want control over the software they run or businesses who need advanced configuration and management options.

Anyone can self-host any software they like. There are many pieces of software that can be self-hosted. Most pieces of software take very little resources, so you can use an old computer or a small computer like the Raspberry Pi and host programs and keep it running 24/7/365.
